FARMINGVILLE, NY (May 17, 2019) – Frederick C. Braun III, the long-time Chairman of the Town of Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency (IDA) and the Brookhaven Local Development Corp. (LDC), is to be honored by Long Island Business News with its Corporate Citizenship Community Impact Award.

The award, which recognizes an individual in the nonprofit community whose work has influenced Long Island in a profound way, is to be presented at a breakfast on June 5th at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York.

A former banker, Braun has long donated his time and energy to organizations that have worked for the betterment of residents of the Town of Brookhaven.

Braun has been a member of the Town of Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency since 1980 and has served as its unpaid chairman since 1989. In addition, he is a regional director of the New York State Economic Development Council, a trade association for the various economic development initiatives around the state. As Chairman he has guided the agency board in its efforts to bring new economic development to the town, which has led to the investment of hundreds of millions of dollars in the town’s economy and the creation of thousands of new jobs.

Additionally, Braun has been a member of the board of directors of Long Island Community Hospital (formerly Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center) for almost 40 years, serving in multiple capacities, including Chairman from 1993 to 1996 and again from 2012-2015.

Moreover, Braun also has served as Chairman of Community Development Corporation of Long Island’s Council of Advisors. Previous affiliations included the Nassau Suffolk Hospital Council, the Long Island Health Network, American Cancer Society and the Boy Scouts of America.

Over the years, Braun has balanced his public time contributions while working in the private sector. He worked for 46 years in commercial banking, retiring in 2009 as executive vice president of the State Bank of Long Island. From 2013-2017, he was President and CEO of Gyrodyne LLC, a publicly traded real estate holding company in St. James.

Braun, who lives in Mount Sinai with his wife, Janet, earned a BS in Finance from Lehigh University.

Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward P. Romaine said, “Because of the work he has done on behalf of the town, Fred is extremely deserving of this honor. Throughout his tenure, he has facilitated the creation of thousands of jobs and helped to inject almost a billion dollars in new investments into Brookhaven’s economy.”
