CFO Lori LaPonte Receives LIBN 2019 Business & Finance Award

BROOKHAVEN IDA CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER LORI LaPONTE RECEIVES LONG ISLAND BUSINESS NEWS BUSINESS AND FINANCE AWARD

FARMINGVILLE, NY (Sept. 17, 2019) – Lori J. LaPonte, Chief Financial Officer of the Town of Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency (IDA) and Local Development Corp. (LDC), has been honored by Long Island Business News with a 2019 Business and Finance Award.

LaPonte, an experienced CPA, has been CFO of the IDA and LDC since 2016. She also is a partner in the accounting firm of Jones, Little & Co. in Port Jefferson Station.

The award recognizes financial experts whose exemplary performance as stewards of Long Island’s business community have made a significant impact in the personal and professional lives of others. The award is to be presented at a dinner at Crest Hollow Country Club on Sept. 26.

“Since Lori LaPonte’s addition to the staffs of both the Brookhaven IDA and Brookhaven LDC, the financial operations of these agencies have never been managed more professionally. She has been an asset to both organizations,” said Frederick C. Braun, III, Chairman of the IDA and the LDC.

Added Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward P. Romaine: “Lori LaPonte is extremely deserving of this honor because of the work she has done on behalf of the town in managing the finances of our economic development agencies which create thousands of jobs and nearly a billion dollars in new investments into Brookhaven’s economy.”

LaPonte has worked in the accounting industry for over 30 years performing accounting and auditing services for local governments including IDAs, commercial entities, and non-profits. Her experience includes a senior audit management position at a big four firm in New York City, vice president of finance of a large civil engineering firm and partner in a local accounting firm. LaPonte is a "Pilot Tester" for continuing professional education courses for CPAs.

LaPonte graduated from C.W. Post / Long Island University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Suffolk County Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Also, she has been involved in her community and has served as a board member for several non-profits and as a parent liaison with her local school district.
