BROOKHAVEN INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY APPROVES ECONOMIC INCENTIVES FOR SOLAR FACILITIES AT TOWN HALL, CALABRO AIRPORT

07/11/18

FARMINGVILLE, NY (July 6, 2018) — Frederick C. Braun III, chairman of the Town of Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency (IDA), announced that the agency has accepted applications for economic incentives for solar energy facilities to be constructed at Brookhaven Calabro Airport and at Brookhaven Town Hall at a combined cost of $4.6 million.

The incentives will allow Agilitas Energy LLC, a leading operator of large-scale solar power projects in the Northeast, to construct solar farms at the airport capable of generating 3.618 MW of energy and another at Town Hall able to produce 1.399 MW. The incentives — abatement of sales taxes — were approved by the IDA board at a meeting on June 5. In December, Agilitas completed the solar energy projects it acquired from American Capital Energy at the Town’s composting facility in Manorville and the Town’s Ecology Center in Holtsville. The Town agreed to lease land for the facilities to ACE, Agilitas’ predecessor, in 2016. At Calabro Airport, Agilitas plans to construct and operate two solar energy projects that together are capable of generating 3.618-MW with 10,488 panels split between a north and south installation at a cost of almost $2.6 million. A $2 million solar facility to be constructed at Town Hall will be installed adjacent to Town Hall’s south parking lot and is expected to be completed by February 2019. This project will consist of 4,056 solar panels. The facilities include all ground-mount solar arrays using low profile, ballasted mounts that required no ground penetration or the clear cutting of any trees. Agilitas is paying for the cost of all construction and maintenance and provides the power to LIPA through a power purchase agreement with the utility company. “Brookhaven Town is a strong believer in solar power and these projects will help develop renewable energy sources without the need to clear any of our woodlands. We are happy to support these projects,” said Braun.
