BROOKHAVEN INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY APPROVES ECONOMIC INCENTIVES FOR BLUE POINT BREWERY MOVE, EXPANSION

11/09/16

FARMINGVILLE, NY (Nov. 9, 2016) – Frederick C. Braun, III, chairman of the Town of Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency (IDA), announced that the agency has approved a package of economic incentives for the Blue Point Brewery, the craft brewery in Patchogue owned by Anheuser-Busch LLC (A-B).

Blue Point plans to use the incentives for its planned relocation to the 109,200-square-foot Briarcliffe College building at 225 W. Main Street, Patchogue. Blue Point intends to spend $35 million to construct and equip a new brewery, warehouse, offices, tasting room and restaurant in the space. The brewery currently operates in leased space in a former shipyard at 151 River Ave., Patchogue, where it produces about 10,000 barrels of beer annually. It plans to produce about 60,000 barrels a year in the new plant. The benefits were approved at a meeting of the IDA on Oct. 19. Blue Point was established in 1998 and acquired by A-B in 2014. It currently has 37 employees and expects the number to grow to 67 within two years of its move. Construction is expected to start in December and be completed by the following September. The Village of Patchogue has approved the re-use of the brick structure. The brewery intends to lease the 2-story building and about 8 acres from Swezey Real Estate Development and build an addition of about 1,200 square feet to accommodate four new loading docks. Approximately 7,100 square feet will be used for offices and an estimated 61,800 square feet will be used for production, packaging, warehousing space and a tasting room, restaurant and retail space. The project is expected to create 130 construction jobs. Blue Point stated in its application that the proposed expansion is necessary to meet projected future sales. “Blue Point Brewing desires to be a focal point of the Town of Brookhaven and Patchogue Village revitalization, contributing to the enhancement of the existing retail business community, and creating an exciting tourist destination,” the company added. “We are pleased that Blue Point and Anheuser-Busch have chosen to keep and expand this homegrown business in the Town of Brookhaven, bring 30 new jobs to the town and continue the redevelopment of West Main Street in Patchogue,” said Braun.
