Brookhaven IDA Closes on Port Jefferson Crossing

New project will build 45 workforce housing units in the heart of Port Jefferson, including commercial space on ground floor

FARMINGVILLE, NY (March 30, 2021)— Chairman Frederick C. Braun III and members of the Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency announced today a package of incentives for Port Jefferson Crossing, a $24 million project that will construct 45 units of residential workforce housing in the heart of Port Jefferson.

The residential units will be located at 1609-1615 Main Street in Port Jefferson, currently the site of two vacant buildings. The existing buildings will be demolished to make room for 45 units of workforce housing and 3,100 square feet of commercial space that will be located on the ground level. All construction will adhere to Enterprise Green Community standards.

“CDCLI is proud to partner with Conifer on Port Jefferson Crossing,” says  Gwen O’Shea
President & CEO. “This development will bring high quality, affordable, workforce housing to Port Jefferson. This transit oriented development is ideal for the community, as it aligns with the Village’s overall community plan. We are grateful to the IDA for not only their support of this development, but their overall commitment to supporting much needed affordable housing options.”

“Conifer is honored to spearhead the transformation of the Upper Port Jefferson area of Main Street in the Village of Port Jefferson,” added Roger Pine, Vice President of Development, Conifer Realty, LLC.  “The public private partnership with the Brookhaven IDA, Suffolk County and the Village of Port Jefferson is instrumental in bringing Port Jefferson Crossing to fruition. This is a long term partnership that will bring continued revitalization to areas most in need in Long Island.”

“Port Jefferson is the ideal location for workforce housing units like Port Jefferson Crossing, which are convenient to the Long Island Railroad and ferry, and in the heart of the spirited village of Port Jefferson,” said Braun. “Housing options like these will hopefully stop the ‘brain drain’ of our younger generation of Long Islanders from leaving the area because they cannot afford to live here.”
